  • About HEIMA

We're both! The bricks-and-mortar version of HEIMA is can be found on Gillygate in York. We back on to the famous city walls and are a stone's throw from the minster and the art gallery. Find our full details on the contact us page or read a bit more about the shop here.

The name Heima was taken from the title of a documentary following Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós as they performed impromptu gigs in small venues around Iceland after returning from a world tour. The word Heima is Icelandic for home and that is the simplest description of what our shop does. Owner, Maff, is a massive Sigur Rós fan by the way.

If you want to know why Heima started then here we go: Owner, Maff, grew up in and around the family DIY store (J Punton & Son) just a little south of York. From cutting customer keys at around 10-years-old he went on to study Architecture at Nottingham and worked in various architectural practices before returning to the family fold in 2008. After running the DIY side of the business for eight years he decided to start his own shop in 2016 combining his love of hardware, good design and environmentalism. HEIMA was born!

    Shipping & Returns

Indeed we do! Just start adding items to the basket and select your country at checkout to see shipping prices.

We stock a large range of products of vastly differing sizes and weights so automating price calculation for delivery is nightmare! If you fill a basket and get in touch with us we are always more than happy to research the best price to get the products to you wherever you are in the world.

Our delivery charges are based on the delivery method, size, weight, as well as the delivery destination.

We have a delivery charge calculator that's available when you add items to your cart, so you can estimate the cost before the checkout process!

Most orders are sent by Royal Mail and we get collections by them daily at around 3pm so unless we are rushed off our feet we usually get orders from before 1pm out the same day.

The main services offered are the Tracked 24 and Tracked 48 services. They are not guaranteed timescales but around 97% of Tracked 24 parcels are delivered next day and Tracked 48 parcels in 2 days.

We have no collections on weekends so orders place on Friday afternoon won't be picked up until Monday. We are not Amazon (for a start we pay tax at the standard rate) but we appreciate your patience with us.

We can offer a refund on any item as long as we are notified within 14 days it is then returned in a saleable condition within 28 days of receipt. Email us to ask us what to do next. Please note, however, that we are unable to reimburse return postage costs.

If you received a faulty or damaged or item, please let us know as soon as possible, and we will do our best to resolve the situation.

We do ask that you please don't buy items with the intention of returning them - we've seen an increase of people buying items just to look at the size or colour and then return them. We lose out on the outward postage fee when an order is returned and a bunch of administration time sorting it out. We'd always rather send you more information on the item if there's anything you specifically want to know about it!
