The Niwaki Ryoba Saw is a versatile Japanese woodworking saw with a double-sided blade, giving you a finer-toothed side for cross-cutting and a coarser side for ripping. Made in Japan from SK-85 steel, it's a precise, efficient saw for general carpentry and woodworking.
Like traditional Japanese saws, the Ryoba cuts on the pull stroke rather than the push stroke. This keeps the blade under less pressure, allowing for a smooth, clean cut with less effort. The ripping teeth gradually become finer towards the handle, which helps when starting a new cut.
The blade is traditionally oil-quenched and can be resharpened using a suitable saw file when required. The handle uses Japanese-style wingnut fittings and can be removed for maintenance or blade replacement.
Japanese saws have thinner, more delicate blades than many Western saws, so a little care is needed. Use a smooth sawing action, don't twist or bend the blade, and avoid forcing it through very hard wood. Let the saw do the cutting rather than using pressure.

Care & Use
Use a smooth, gentle sawing action, cutting on the pull stroke and allowing the saw to glide back on the push. Avoid twisting the blade or allowing the weight of the workpiece to pinch it. Japanese saw blades are deliberately thin and can be damaged by excessive force or incorrect use.
