Forged Japanese loppers for thicker branches. Traditional Japanese lopping shears with big strong forged blades and stout oak handles. No messing about with squidgy shock absorbers - the oak handles take care of that - or adjustable, ratchet jiggery pokery, just the very pleasing action of properly forged carbon steel at work.
Suitable for branches up to 2.5cm/1", although as some species are harder than others this is only a guide, and common sense should tell you when to stop. Attack larger branches at a 45˚angle and whatever you do, do not rely on the handles to do the cutting – they are wood and you can snap them with enough lever pressure. If the blades aren’t coping, sharpen them and try again.
