Rainbow Terry Pit Towel
Pickup available at YORK Gillygate
Usually ready in 1 hour
What on earth is a pit towel? Well, the name seems to be a bit of a mystery. A customer once told us that their father worked in the mines - or "down t'pit", as we might say around here - and all the miners were given towels just like these. There are a few other versions of the story, though, so we're not claiming to have solved the mystery!
Whatever its origins, it's a brilliant, properly useful towel. Made from recycled cotton yarn and woven from assorted brightly coloured threads, it's wonderfully absorbent and tough enough for all sorts of jobs around the home and beyond.
Use it as a kitchen drying mat, hand towel, pet towel or keep one with the picnic kit. It's equally at home in the garden shed, garage or on the beach. At 45 × 90cm, it's a very handy size and should give years of faithful service.
And because it's made from recycled yarn, every batch is a little different. The colours and patterns vary, sometimes quite considerably, so the towel you receive will be a surprise. We can't guarantee a particular colour, although if there's a colour you'd particularly like to avoid, give us a ring and we'll see what we've got.
Not quite big enough? We've also got the full-sized rainbow bath towel version.
